Can I see loose ametrines before I choose one?

Yes — that's how we work. Book a viewing or just walk in, sit down with the actual stones, and we'll discuss origin and treatment on every ametrine.

What is ametrine, and is it natural?

Ametrine is a natural single stone that shows both amethyst purple and citrine gold in one crystal — almost all of it comes from one mine in Bolivia. The fine bicolour material is natural and we disclose any treatment. At 7 on the Mohs scale it's a good everyday ring stone.

Ametrine is a rare variety of biclour quartz that is produced in finite supply at only one mine in the world: the Anahi Mine in southeastern Bolivia. It features purple amethyst and golden yellow citrine together in a single crystal that, when cut a certain way, can resemble a pinwheel or peppermint swirl candy. Ametrine’s name is a combination of amethyst and citrine, though in Bolivia it is often called “bolivianite” because it has been designated as the country’s national gemstone.
