Frequently asked questions

Where can I get a custom citrine ring made in Toronto?

At Skyjems, 27 Queen St East, Suite 1011. We carry a deep selection of golden and Madeira citrine, every gem graded on site by a GIA-certified specialist. Choose your dream citrine in person, and if you want we can design custom jewellery with you, carried out by our master goldsmiths here in Toronto. A family gemstone dealer since 1967.

Don't know what you want to make? Check out our portfolio for inspiration, we have created tens of thousands of rings over the past 27 years.

Can I see loose citrines before I choose one?

Yes — that's how we work. Book a viewing or just walk in, sit down with the actual stones, and we'll discuss origin and treatment on every citrine.

Is citrine natural or treated?

Most citrine on the market is heat-treated amethyst — a stable, permanent treatment that gives that warm golden colour, and natural untreated citrine is rarer. We tell you exactly which you're holding. At 7 on the Mohs scale it's a hard-wearing everyday ring stone.

Citrine is rare in nature, and was often confused with topaz before modern advances in gemology. Today it is a popular gemstone thanks to its durability and affordability. While citrine’s name is based on its lemon (citrus) yellow colour, it can often be found in shades ranging from nearly colourless to earthy browns and reddish oranges. Often, traces of iron are what affect the stone’s colouring. Citrine can be found in Brazil, Uruguay, the Urals in Russia, Scotland, and North Carolina in the United States.
