What makes a star sapphire, and is the star real?
The six-rayed star (asterism) comes from fine rutile silk inside the stone, cut as a cabochon to centre the star — and it's real only when that silk is natural, not induced. We carry natural Ceylon and Burmese stars, disclose treatment on every one, and at 9 on the Mohs scale they're superb everyday ring stones.
