Frequently asked questions

Where can I get a custom zircon ring made in Toronto?

At Skyjems, 27 Queen St East, Suite 1011. We carry a deep selection of blue, white and fancy-colour zircon, every gem graded on site by a GIA-certified specialist. Choose your dream zircon in person, and if you want we can design custom jewellery with you, carried out by our master goldsmiths here in Toronto. A family gemstone dealer since 1967.

Don't know what you want to make? Check out our portfolio for inspiration, we have created tens of thousands of rings over the past 27 years.

Can I see loose zircons before I choose one?

Yes — that's how we work. Book a viewing or just walk in, sit down with the actual stones, and we'll discuss origin and treatment on every zircon.

Is zircon treated, and is it good for a ring?

Most blue and colourless zircon is heat-treated — a long-accepted, stable, disclosed treatment that brings out the colour and the brilliant fire zircon is loved for. It's a natural stone (not to be confused with cubic zirconia), and we'll guide you to a setting that protects its facet edges in a ring.

Zircon’s name is most likely derived from the Persian zargun (golden colored). The gem is available in many colours, though most natural stones are yellow, red, or brown. These stones are then typically heated to produce zircon stones in other colours such as the popular blue, green, or even the colourless variety also known as hyacinth, jacinth, or Matura diamond, whose brilliance and multicoloured flashes of light (called fire) bring it closer to resembling the diamond than any other gemstone. Its sparkle makes it a fantastic lower-cost alternative to diamonds, though it can also be mistaken for cubic zirconia, which is an unrelated, man-made gemstone despite having a similar-sounding name.
