Istanbul Jewellery Show

Istanbul Jewellery Show

Turkey's principal international jewellery trade fair

Trade & market termsView in dictionary · 380 words

The Istanbul Jewellery Show (IJS) is Turkey's largest international jewellery trade fair, held twice yearly at the CNR Expo centre in Istanbul. The autumn edition typically runs in October and the spring edition in March, drawing exhibitors and buyers from across the Middle East, the Mediterranean basin, Central Asia, the Caucasus, and increasingly from Europe and East Asia. The show is operated by Pozitif Fairs in cooperation with the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and the Istanbul Jewellery, Watch and Silver Industry Association (JTR).

Profile

The show typically hosts more than a thousand exhibitors across categories including diamond and coloured-stone jewellery, gold and silver jewellery, watches, jewellery machinery and equipment, packaging, gemstones in rough and polished form, and ancillary trade services. Visitor traffic ranges in the tens of thousands across the multi-day event, with strong representation from buyers in Russia and the former Soviet space, the Gulf states, Iran, Lebanon, Egypt, North Africa, the Balkans, and Western Europe.

Turkey occupies a distinctive position in the international jewellery trade as the world's largest exporter of fine gold jewellery by some measures, anchored by the Grand Bazaar's centuries-old goldsmithing tradition and by the modernised manufacturing centres of Istanbul, Ankara, Bursa, and Izmir. The Istanbul Jewellery Show serves as the principal sales event of this manufacturing base, with much of the year's order book negotiated across the show floor.

Trade significance

For international buyers, the show offers concentrated access to Turkish gold jewellery production at competitive prices, alongside coloured-stone and diamond goods imported from Asia for setting and finishing in Turkey. The October show is timed to align with the year-end retail buying season in major export markets, and the March show with the spring and summer collections.

The show is part of the calendar of major international jewellery fairs that includes Vicenzaoro (Italy), JCK Las Vegas (United States), the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show, Inhorgenta Munich, and Baselworld's successors. Trade buyers visiting Istanbul Jewellery Show typically combine the visit with sourcing trips into the Grand Bazaar's Kuyumcular Çarşısı (Goldsmiths' Bazaar) and to the manufacturing concentrations in the Kuyumcukent industrial district near Istanbul Atatürk Airport.
