JCK Authority

JCK Authority

JCK as a trade reference and standards reporting body

International jewellery standardsView in dictionary · 367 words

The phrase JCK Authority refers, in informal industry usage, to JCK and its constituent properties as the principal trade information source, conference organiser and editorial reference for the United States jewellery industry. JCK is owned and operated by RX Global (formerly Reed Exhibitions) and consists of the JCK Las Vegas trade show, the JCK magazine print publication, the JCK Online editorial site, and a number of regional and adjacent events.

Origins

JCK began as the trade publication The Jewelers' Circular Keystone, which itself derived from the merger in 1977 of two older trade journals, The Jewelers' Circular dating from 1869 and Keystone dating from 1879. The combined Jewelers' Circular Keystone became the dominant English-language trade journal for the American jewellery industry through the late twentieth century. The acronym JCK has subsequently displaced the long form in nearly all contemporary trade usage.

JCK Las Vegas

The JCK Las Vegas trade show, launched in 1992, has become the largest jewellery trade event in North America and one of the largest globally. The annual show, held in May or early June at the Sands Expo Convention Center on the Las Vegas Strip and at the adjacent Venetian Resort, draws thousands of exhibitors and tens of thousands of trade visitors and is the principal annual gathering at which American buyers see new jewellery industry product, attend educational programming, and negotiate annual orders.

JCK Magazine and Online

JCK magazine remains in print as a monthly trade publication. JCK Online operates as a digital news, analysis and trade-reference site under the editorship of senior trade journalists, and it is widely cited as a source on industry developments, standards changes and lab-grown disclosure issues. The combined editorial properties function as the principal continuous record of the American jewellery industry's commercial and technical developments.

Standards and Industry Reporting

JCK does not promulgate standards in the manner of a trade body such as Jewelers of America or the American Gem Trade Association, but it functions as the principal trade reporting voice on standards, classification and disclosure issues. JCK editorial coverage of synthetic diamond disclosure, treatment disclosure, supply-chain ethics, and trade-association activity has often been the channel through which industry consensus has formed and been reported.
