Jewellery Roll
Jewellery Roll
A soft fabric pouch with internal pockets for storing and travelling with fine jewellery
A jewellery roll is a soft cloth or leather travel pouch with internal compartments designed to hold rings, earrings, chains, bracelets, and small pendants in organised separation while in transit. The roll typically measures between 25 and 40 centimetres along its longer axis when unrolled, has a fabric or leather outer surface, and is closed with ribbon ties, a button, or a zipper. The interior is fitted with elasticated pockets, ring rolls, and zipped compartments to keep individual pieces apart and prevent abrasion or tangling.
Construction
The outer fabric is typically leather, suede, silk, or microfibre, with cotton or velvet interior linings selected to be soft enough to avoid surface contact damage. A ring roll, the cylindrical or vee-shaped insert that holds rings in single rows by their bands, is included at one end. Earring cards or felt pages with backings allow earrings to be stored in pairs without the loss of a single from a hard case. A small zipped pouch in the centre carries fine chains.
Use and Care
The roll is intended for short-term travel storage rather than long-term home storage. For home storage, a fitted box with rigid compartments, sufficient ventilation, and tarnish-inhibiting tabs is preferable for silver pieces. The roll's principal protection in transit is from impact, dust, and tangling rather than from theft or mechanical damage; valuables in transit should be in cabin baggage, with high-value pieces declared to the relevant insurer's terms.
