Joyalukkas Diamonds
Joyalukkas Diamonds
Diamond-led sub-brand of the Joyalukkas group
Joyalukkas Diamonds is the diamond-led retail sub-brand of the Joyalukkas group, the Indian-origin retail jewellery chain founded by Joy Alukkas in Abu Dhabi in 1987. The sub-brand was developed to position the group's diamond inventory more visibly within stores that historically led with 22-carat yellow gold, and to compete with diamond-focused South Asian chains such as Tanishq, Malabar Diamonds and Kalyan Diamonds.
Position within the group
Joyalukkas operates as a single retail chain with several merchandising banners. Joyalukkas Gold and the unbranded core showrooms handle the traditional South Asian gold inventory. Joyalukkas Diamonds handles calibrated round and fancy-cut diamond goods, in 18-carat white, yellow and rose gold, and in platinum. The diamond banner is present either as a dedicated section within larger flagship stores or as standalone Joyalukkas Diamonds boutiques in selected locations.
Product mix
The diamond inventory is dominated by calibrated melee and small to medium centre stones in standard colour ranges, typically G to J in colour and SI to I clarity for the volume goods, with smaller selections of higher-grade stones for bridal and statement work. Most diamonds carry IGI, GIA or similar laboratory grading. The mountings range from price-accessible solitaires and halo styles to bridal sets that combine diamonds with traditional South Asian motifs such as paisley, peacock and floral designs.
Marketing and audience
The sub-brand targets two principal audiences. First, the urban Indian middle and upper-middle class buying engagement and bridal diamond jewellery, where the brand competes directly with Tanishq, Kalyan Diamonds and Malabar Diamonds. Second, the South Asian diaspora in the Gulf, the United Kingdom, the United States, Singapore and Malaysia, who buy through the parent Joyalukkas store network. Marketing has historically used Indian film celebrities as brand ambassadors, in line with the broader Indian retail jewellery practice.
Trade significance
For the international diamond trade Joyalukkas Diamonds is significant as one of a small group of large Indian-origin retail buyers of calibrated polished goods. The buying patterns of Joyalukkas, Malabar, Kalyan and Tanishq together exert meaningful price pressure on the Surat-Mumbai polished pipeline, particularly for melee and the lower commercial grades. Operationally the diamond sub-brand also illustrates a wider trend in Indian retail of carving out diamond-specific banners within otherwise gold-led parent chains, in order to reach buyers whose first reference point is a diamond solitaire rather than a gold parure.
