PNG Jewellers — Parekh Narayan Govind Jewellers, in full — is one of India's oldest continuously trading jewellery retail houses, founded in 1832 in Pune, in the present-day state of Maharashtra. The business has been operated by successive generations of the Parekh family across nearly two centuries, transitioning from a single-shop traditional jeweller to a regional retail chain serving western and southern India. Its core offer remains traditional Indian gold jewellery — bridal sets, regional mangalsutra and bangles, kundan and meena work — alongside contemporary diamond jewellery and certified gemstones.
History
The firm traces its origin to Pune in the late Maratha and early colonial period, with the Parekh family entering the jewellery trade in 1832 under founder Ganesh Bapuji Parekh. The business operated as a single-location traditional jeweller through the nineteenth and most of the twentieth century, building a regional reputation based on bullion-based pricing transparency, stable supplier relationships, and a clientele inherited across family generations. Modernisation began in the late twentieth century and accelerated in the 2000s, with the opening of additional retail locations across Pune, Mumbai, Solapur, Aurangabad, and other cities in Maharashtra and adjoining states.
The corporate structure was formalised as PNG Jewellers and PNG Sons in the modern era, with public listing of the parent entity on Indian stock exchanges. Despite the listing, day-to-day operation remains family-led, and the merchandising and design direction continues to reflect the regional traditions of Maharashtrian and broader western Indian jewellery.

The merchandise mix is anchored in 22-karat and 18-karat gold jewellery for bridal and ceremonial use, with collections oriented to the major regional jewellery traditions: Maharashtrian Nath nose ornaments, Kolhapuri saaj, traditional Marathi mangalsutra, and the broader north Indian temple-jewellery and kundan-meena work that overlaps with the western Indian market. Diamond jewellery — both bridal and fashion — has expanded since the 1990s, supplied largely from the Surat polishing trade. Coloured-stone goods, polki and uncut diamond pieces, and silver decorative items round out the offer.
Hallmarking is BIS-certified — the Bureau of Indian Standards mandatory hallmarking on all karat gold from 2021 — and the firm has historically been an early adopter of certification programmes for both gold and diamonds.
