Rapaport Magazine
Rapaport Magazine
The monthly trade publication of the Rapaport Group, covering the global diamond business
Rapaport Magazine is the monthly trade publication of the Rapaport Group, founded by Martin Rapaport in 1978 in conjunction with the launch of the weekly Rapaport Diamond Report price list. The magazine has been continuously published since and serves as one of the principal trade media for the wholesale and retail diamond businesses globally. It circulates among diamond dealers, manufacturers, jewellers, and the institutional and consultancy community that follows the industry.
Editorial scope
The magazine covers diamond mining, manufacturing, wholesale trade, retail conditions, and policy developments — including sanctions, anti-money-laundering rules, the Kimberley Process, and other regulatory matters that affect the industry. Each issue typically includes feature reporting on producing regions and major industry players, market analysis combining the firm's pricing data with broader trade observation, opinion writing from trade contributors, and the standard pricing references that accompany the weekly Rapaport Price List subscription.
The publication is editorially distinct from the Rapaport pricing services in the sense that the magazine carries reported journalism rather than pricing data alone, but the editorial line of the magazine is consistent with the views of Martin Rapaport and the firm's leadership on industry policy questions. The magazine is one of the principal vehicles through which the Rapaport Group articulates its views on diamond-trade ethics, pricing transparency, and producer relations.
Position in the trade
Among trade publications, Rapaport Magazine is one of three or four titles that the international diamond trade reads regularly. Others include JCK Magazine (covering the broader retail jewellery market in the United States), the Diamond Loupe, IDEX Online, and the European outlets edited from Antwerp and Tel Aviv. Rapaport's distinctive position rests on the firm's role as both the publisher of the price list and the operator of RapNet, giving the magazine direct access to the largest single dataset of wholesale diamond inventory and pricing.
Format and access
The magazine is distributed in print and digital format to subscribers of the Rapaport pricing services and to industry members. Some content is also published on the Rapaport website, with paywalled detail and free summary articles. Annual issues frequently focus on themed reporting — the rough market, the synthetics question, the structure of polished trading at the major bourses — that serves as a longer-form complement to the weekly pricing publication.
In the trade
For dealers and analysts, Rapaport Magazine is part of a routine media diet for staying current on diamond trade conditions. Its strengths lie in the depth of its market commentary and the breadth of its coverage; its limits are those of trade media generally — relationships with the businesses it covers, and an editorial perspective shaped by the broader interests of the publishing group.
