Brazilian Citrine — Lemon and Fancy Cuts

Citrine is the yellow to orange variety of quartz, and Brazil is where most of it comes from. It is a stone that rewards size and cutting more than almost any other, because the material arrives clean and large enough that a cutter can be ambitious with it.
The treatment question, answered honestly
Much of the commercial citrine on the market is heat-treated amethyst. The two are the same mineral; heat shifts amethyst's purple toward yellow and orange, and the result is stable, permanent and entirely legitimate when disclosed. It is so common that a buyer is right to assume treatment unless told otherwise.
Our Brazilian citrine is recorded as unheated, stone by stone. That is the distinction worth asking about with this species, and it is the reason to ask rather than assume.
Why the cutting matters here
Because citrine is attainable in large sizes, it is one of the few gems where a cutter can spend real time on a fantasy or concave cut without the material cost dominating. A well-executed fancy cut turns a plain yellow stone into something that moves and flashes in a way a standard oval never will. Several of ours are cut that way, and the cutting is a substantial part of what you are looking at.
Quartz sits at 7 on the Mohs scale — durable enough for most jewellery, though a large table facet will show scratches over years of daily wear.
What to look at
(1) colour, and whether you want the pale lemon or the deeper madeira orange; (2) whether the stone is heated or unheated, asked specifically; (3) the cut, which in this species is often the main event; (4) clarity, which should be eye-clean; (5) size, since citrine is one of the few places where scale is achievable.
