Morganite is the pink to peach-orange member of the beryl family — the same mineral as emerald and aquamarine, coloured by manganese instead of chromium or iron. It was named for J. P. Morgan, who collected on a scale few private buyers ever have. Brazil remains its principal commercial source.
What morganite gives you
Size. Morganite is one of the few fine coloured gems that reaches ten carats and beyond while staying clean and staying attainable enough to wear. A large morganite is not a compromise stone; it is simply a species where large clean crystals are less rare than they are in emerald.
The colour runs from a soft cool pink to a warmer peach-orange, and the deeper tones generally sit at the top of the market. Beryl is a hard, durable material at 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale, comfortable for daily wear.
Treatment
Morganite is commonly heated in the trade to shift peach tones toward pure pink; the change is stable and undetectable, which is why the honest position is to state what a stone is rather than what it appears to be. Ask, per stone, and review each listing and its documentation for the individual gem.
