This is an interesting question because the answer might surprise you!
In the video below, David explains that while it’s often said that the engagement ring is worn on the left hand because it’s closer to the heart, however it’s interesting to note that engagement rings actually aren’t always worn on the left hand.
“A friend of mine comes from kind of a traditional, conservative German family and I guess for them, they wear the engagement ring on the left finger and when they get married, they switch it over to the right hand ring finger, and that actually happens during the wedding.”
David also speculates that another reason so many people wear their engagement rings on the left hand is because such a large percentage of the world’s population is right-handed, so wearing items like rings or watches on the less dominant hand helps to protect them from everyday damage.
