The Craftsmanship Behind Every Piece of Jewellery
Share
Creating a custom piece of jewelry involves a series of skilled, time-intensive steps that combine craftsmanship, design, and precision. Here’s a breakdown of what typically goes into the process:
1. Design & Concept Development
This begins with understanding the client’s vision. Our jeweller or designer translates ideas into sketches or digital renderings, balancing aesthetics, function, and wearability. If it's a custom piece, we will also involve CAD (Computer-Aided Design) to create a precise 3D model.
2. CAD Modeling & 3D Scanning
Once the design is finalized, a CAD designer creates a digital 3D model. The gemstones are scanned to ensure a perfect fit in the design. This model will serve as the blueprint for the entire piece.
3. Wax Printing
The CAD model is used to 3D-print a wax version of the jewelry. This wax model allows for any final adjustments and becomes the mold for casting.
4. Casting
Using the lost wax casting process, the wax model is encased in plaster, melted out, and molten metal (gold, platinum, etc.) is poured in. This transforms the design into a solid metal form.
5. Cleaning, Grinding & Polishing
After casting, the rough metal form is cleaned, filed, and shaped. The surface is smoothed through multiple stages of grinding and polishing to achieve a high-quality finish.
6. Stone Setting
Skilled setters carefully place and secure each gemstone. This step requires precision to ensure the stones are secure and beautifully aligned with the design.
7. Final Polishing & Finishing Touches
After stone setting, the piece goes through a final polish. Depending on the design, finishes such as high polish, matte, or brushed textures are applied.
8. Quality Control
The piece is thoroughly inspected to ensure the craftsmanship meets quality standards. Any final adjustments are made before the jewelry is packaged and delivered.
Why This Matters?
Each piece involves multiple artisans and many hours of work. From technical design to meticulous hand-finishing, this labour ensures your jewelry is not only beautiful but built to last.
