Can I see loose prasiolites before I choose one?

Yes — that's how we work. Book a viewing or just walk in, sit down with the actual stones, and we'll discuss origin and treatment on every prasiolite.

What is prasiolite, and is it treated?

Prasiolite — often called green amethyst — is a soft leek-green quartz, almost always produced by heat-treating amethyst, a stable and disclosed process. At 7 on the Mohs scale it's a durable, easy-wearing everyday ring stone.

Although it is commonly called “green amethyst”, prasiolite is a yellow-green or green variety of quartz in the same way that amethyst is, by definition, a purple variety of quartz. The gemstone’s name comes from the Greek words prason (leek) and lithos (stone).
